Architecture: The Artistry of Imagination and the Sensibility for Proportion

Without realizing it, the love for architecture from this woman who is familiarly called Christy has started to grow since childhood. At that time, she loved to watch television shows related to home decoration. Christy also often pays attention to the work of her uncle who is an architect.  She did not hesitate to ask her uncle about the world of architecture that captivated her desire to continue studying and majoring in architecture. "After graduating from high school, I decided to continue my studies and major in architecture. At that time, I had no idea what this field would be like", said the lady who was born in Vancouver, 25 years ago.

After graduating from the Institute of Technology Bandung in 2011, she started working on several projects. After working on several independent projects, she finally decided to join PT. Decodia Mitra Selaras. According to her, architecture is a broad science that can change the quality of life of a person or many people. Her love for architecture grew when she realized that architecture is very broad and has big challenges, where the result of a project will affect the user or the people around it. "The science of architecture is also related to social, economic, or "green issues" in a positive way and if it's not careful it can be negative" added Christy.

Still, according to her, an architect must have the artistry of imagination and sensibility in seeing proportion, shape, size, and color and it would be even better if it had a strong character. Meanwhile, the skills to see the potential and to analyze problems, (according to her) will be formed with the experiences in working on a project. The more often you practice, the more skilled you will be in designing architecture.

Not only that, according to her, an architect must have strong patience, because what is being imagined in the design sometimes differs from what the client wants or clashes with the budget. Here, creativity is needed to produce a win-win solution between having a limited budget and still maintaining the design concept. Christy added that the work of an architect starts with an analysis of user needs. The analysis is related to the given site and several things related to the basic analysis before designing. The design process itself is a combination of creativity and problem-solving, all the way to the final design.

Christy also feels that knowledge in other fields also intersects with architecture, such as psychology. This cross of knowledge is also one of the favorites in doing architecture. She can create a building that can influence the way people use it. She can create a building capable of influencing those who see or use it. "Unknowingly, they move and respond to the building scenarios that we create. Architecture itself is not just a drawing but also a design, for example visuals, taste and audio. I think these elements are what made me too engrossed in going deeper into architecture in order to create scenarios. what's more, with a unique building shape by providing something unforgettable for users," said Christy.

Currently, she is motivated to provide more solutions for others in the form of buildings that are unique, beautiful, and functional. This is solely so that the knowledge can be useful and help bring about change or provide quality of life for others, starting from the smallest such as a place to live.

Christy said that lately more and more people understand and know more about their needs for the shape and quality of buildings. So the field of architecture is increasingly needed and appreciated. And again according to her architectural knowledge is not only used to make new buildings. However, it is also needed when an architect is required to maintain existing architectural works, for example by restoration or renovation and changes in building functions. "Of course, with an increasing awareness of design, there will be more and more things we can do to help many people individually or in groups or in society. My message for those who want to become architects is always to be curious, aware of new things, and discover characteristics of oneself," explained the woman who is also adept at playing the saxophone.
